The community spirit and principles of mutual benefit which a third sector group embodies often inspires business, professionals, public bodies and high street stores to provide help. This means that instead of paying what can be high costs for a lawyer, products to raffle or market rates for a building to run services, voluntary and community organisations can receive services and resources gratis or at subsidised costs.
Help in Kind can come from a variety of sources, for example:
- companies that genuinely want to support a cause or see a mutual benefit from promoting goodwill
- public bodies such as local councils, Primary Care Trusts or Regional Development Agencies that see benefits in utilising community groups
- professional associations such as barristers, quantity surveyors or journalists who feel strongly about social issues
