Non-money support

There are various ways that voluntary and community groups can get resources for their work, and this is not always about cash.

The use of meeting rooms or offices free or for less than market rents, access to cheap printing, the free loan of a marquee for an event, or some extra volunteer labour for a project are examples of ways that groups get non-money support for their work.

These resources can be extremely valuable to an organisation in reducing the amount of cash they need to find, and they sometimes provide things that money can’t buy – including relationships. And, of course, volunteers are a major source of non-money support for the sector.

In this section you will find Introductory Overviews to a range of topics listed under Non-money support on the left. In each overview you will also find

  • a formatted pdf leaflet of the text which you can download and print
  • a resources section containing links to other resources on the topic.

Some topics will also offer links to relevant case studies and some of the more technical topics have expert guides.

How can companies help?

Companies give support to the voluntary and community sector in a range of ways. Some set up charitable Foundations (like the LloydsTSB Foundation), some donate equipment or goods, some have active employee fundraising schemes, and some provide sponsorship.
