Dear Ms Smiley,

I am writing on behalf of the Appledown Lunch Club to ask for a grant of £250 towards the cost of providing activities for our members.

The Appledown Lunch Club has been operating since 1999. We are run by a voluntary management committee and are a registered charity no. 123456.

We aim to provide social contact and outside interest for isolated older people in our community along with a low cost nutritious meal. We provide lunch three days a week in Appledown Community Centre. We have 35 regular members and a further 23 occasional attendees. We are open to anyone in the Appledown area aged over 65. Our current members range in age from 73 to 97 and the average age is now 81. Without our service many of our members would rarely get out of the house and would have very little contact with the wider community.

We receive an annual small grant from the local authority which helps to cover our rent and transport costs. Our members pay £1.50 for each session they attend which covers the cost of the food. All our labour is provided by volunteers.

As well as a meal and a chat, we try to provide some stimulating activities and speakers at least once a week and it is this cost that we are seeking help with. I have attached a breakdown to show the detail of how we would use the £250. I have also enclosed our latest annual accounts.

I hope that the Anyplace Charitable Trust will consider supporting our work. If you need any further information please let me know.

Yours sincerely,

Mr George Swinwood
Secretary, Appledown Lunch Club
