This is a downloadable (739 KB, .pdf) pocket sized 42 page guide produced for the Finance Hub by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) Sustainable Funding Project. The guide includes advice, checklists and a series of exercises that groups and advisers can use to work through the issues involved in developing a sustainable approach to fundraising.

Mexborough Allotment Society

Capital fundraising to upgrade the infrastructure of a large allotment site. Group had never applied for funding before because they didn’t think there would be any funding for their work. The case study explains how these first-time fundraisers set about finding funders and learning how to apply. It charts the successful development of a long term plan and fundraising successes to date and offer their advice to others in a similar position.

Lottery Funding

This is a joint website run by all Lottery funders in the UK. The site allows you to search for information on current funding programmes across all Lottery grant makers.

The Directory of Social Change

The Directory of Social Change provides web based services, CD Roms and publications of use to voluntary and community organisations seeking funds. It includes books with details on a full range of funding sources such as companies, individuals and trusts.

South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau

A wide range of information sheets in plain text and PDF format from South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau (SYFAB).

Funderfinder

Funderfinder produce a range of information sheets on funding and fundraising which are available from their website. Apply Yourselves is free software that can be downloaded from the site and helps you write effective funding applications.

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) website offers a wide range of information on funding relating topics.

Big Lottery Fund

The Big Lottery Fund provides details and criteria for different initiatives and their application processes.

Rural Community Councils

The Action within Communities in Rural England (ACRE) website provides a list of Rural Community Councils throughout England.

National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA)

NAVCA has produced this information sheet entitled ‘Getting Started – Funding Resource List’. This link opens a word document.

Government funding.org.uk

Contains a lot of accessible and useful advice including guidance on how to apply for funding, and A-Z of funding terminology and links to agencies providing further help. You have to register with the site to get at the content - this is free if your turnover is less than 500,000 pounds a year but you have to pay if it is higher.

National Occupational Standards for Fundraising

The updated National Occupational Standards for Fundraising have been approved and published. These are relevant if raising funds is a role you perform or manage and whether it is the focus or a small part of your working remit.

UK Fundraising

UK Fundraising is a useful resource for fundraising. It includes links to funders' websites, book lists, training courses and other resources linked to fundraising.

Essential Guide to Fundraising  £

This publication from the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (acevo) is aimed at Chief Executives of small and large organisations and aims to demystify the process of developing a strategic approach to fundraising. A full list of acevo publications can be found here.

Charity Trends 2007  £

This publication from the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) research team provides up-to-date statistics and analysis on: current trends in fundraising; charity income and expenditure; details of the top 500 fundraising charities; and company donations.
