Providing funding?

If you provide grants or commission services from the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector your organisation will be involved in of deciding what services or products are needed, acquiring them and ensuring that they meet requirements. The aim of this site is to provide practical, informative and up-to-date resources to those involved in all aspects of funding and financial management in the voluntary and community sector.

It aims to help organisations be more effective in their fundraising and to be fully aware of their responsibilities in managing and monitoring their finances. You may find some of the resources and materials available on the site useful to you, especially if you provide advice or guidance to organisations that apply to you for funding or contracts or are involved in developing applications.

To help you quickly access the information you need, the resources have been listed under various topic headings in the left hand menu.

Under each topic you will find Introductory Overviews covering a range of issues, a formatted pdf leaflet of the text which you can download and print and a resources section containing links to further resources on the topic.

Some topics will also offer links to relevant Case Studies and some of the more technical topics have Expert Guides.

These briefings provide information on public spending rules and are aimed at both practitioners in the voluntary and community sector and the statutory sector.

Intelligent funding

Funding bodies of various types invest in the sector. But does this investment really help to build the capacity of sector? Is there a difference between what funders offer to support capacity building and what the sector really needs? How can funders improve the quality of their investment decisions and how can the third sector equip itself to better respond to the requirements of funders? The findings from this research project aim to:
